Nothing says San Francisco like row houses on a hill.
Monday’s San Francisco Photos
Here are the rest of the photos that I took today and didn’t link to in my last entry.
Enjoy!
San Francisco – Monday
Man are my legs tired.
I discovered today that the conference sessions that I signed up for are only on Tuesday through Thursday. And I can’t get into any of the sessions today without paying $850. I talked to my boss and we decided that the available sessions were probably not worth $850 so I pretty much spent the day walking around San Francisco.
First thing I did was walk around and find some breakfast. The Concerge at the hotel recommended a place called “Dotty’s” but when I got there the line was out the door. I didn’t feel like waiting so I wandered around some more and had a so-so omelette at the Olympic Cafe. (I wonder if the IOC knows about this place.)
After breakfast I wandered around down to Powell and Market Street – where the cable car terminates. I watched for a bit and then decided “What the hell, let’s do touristy stuff!” and bought a round trip ticket.
I rode the cable car to the end – which is near Hyde Street Pier and Ghirardelli Square and wandered around the area for a while. Hyde Street Pier is pretty cool – it’s actually a National Park, and they have several ships you can buy tickets to walk around on. I cheaped out and didn’t buy any and just walked around on the pier.
Ghirardelli Square doesn’t really do anything for me. It’s just shops and such and I don’t really care that much for shopping.
I saw some people taking a tour on Segways. Very silly.Continue reading →
Hydro-Foam – I sooooo need one of these
Watch this amazing video of the Hydro-Foam RC airplane.
Then visit the creator’s site and weep because it’s not available yet.
Just what I need, another toy. 🙂
Go Cars
“GoCar is the first-ever GPS-guided storytelling car. It’s the most exhilarating, entertaining and enlightening way to see San Francisco.”
In San Francisco
I’m in San Francisco this week for the LinuxWorld Expo. A huge Geek Fest, no doubt.
I brought my digital camera along, and here are the first sets of photos that I have taken:
First we have some photos I took out the window of the plane – some turned out better than others.
Then I went for a little walk around San Francisco. I’m staying at the Hotel Nikko – right in the heart of downtown, so there is plenty of hustle and bustle here.
Poor Customer Service
Well, I can not recommend Dick & Rick’s Auto Interiors in Bloomington.
I drove over there and told the woman behind the counter I wanted to talk to someone about reupholstering the seat in my sidecar.
She went in the back and came out again a few minutes later and said the tech said they don’t do motorcycles.
I explained that it was a seat in a sidecar and she said she had told the tech that, but he said they don’t do that.
They didn’t even want to look at it.
So I left, very annoyed. Nice customer service there. I won’t be going back even if I need my car worked on.
Looks like I need to let my fingers do the walking next time.
I did call Dick and Rick’s the other day to inquire about their hours and ask about getting my sidecar seat redone. The woman on the phone (I am assuming it was the same woman) did not tell me then that they wouldn’t even look at it. She told me I’d have to bring it in for a quote. I have the feeling that she thought the tech was being unreasonable also.
Beach Pneumatic Site
Alfred Beach’s Pneumatic Subway and the beginnings of rapid transit in New York
Way cool stuff about early subways and such. Lots of illustrations. You could waste lots of time here.
Wish the K bike would sell
Then I could buy this: 1988 Ducati 750 Paso
I’ve always liked that bike. I guess parts are getting hard to find though. Just what I need, another mongrel motorcycle. 🙂
Drove the Hack to Work Today!
Man that’s a weird thing to drive. Pulls right when you gas it, pulls left when you brake. Steers easier to the right than the left.
Don’t turn too fast to the right or you lift the chair and it gets squirrely (I have to practice flying the chair a lot more.)
But it’s fun!
