Poor Rosalyn

On Friday, Brittany, Rosalyn’s bestest friend, moved away.

Brittany and Rosalyn are both 8 and have been best friends since they can remember. Brittany lived kitty-corner across the street and down the block, we could see her front door from ours, and they would go to each others houses several days a week. They were in the same class room together at school and it was easy for Brittany to come to our house after school if her Mom had something to do or vice versa.

Brittany moved to Montrose. That’s about an hour plus away. No more will Rosalyn be able to call Brittany and then gleefully shout “Brittany’s coming over!”

No more will Rosalyn skip down the block and across the street to Brittany’s house.

Sure they can have weekend sleep-overs, but I’m sure those will taper off quickly and stop.

Sure there are more kids in the neighborhood that Rosalyn goes to school with and can play with, but none as convenient, nor as best a friend as Brittany was.

Rosalyn seems to be taking it well so far, and they are having a sleep-over at Brittany’s new house on Friday, but I’m tearing up just writing this blog entry.

A beautiful Day

It’s a beautiful spring day today! 52 degrees (or more) and sunny. So I went out and sat in the sun and watched the kids drawing on the sidewalk.

Then I realized that I should take some pics, so I went in and got my camera!

Spring Day Photos

Enjoy!

If I wasn’t sick, I’d have gotten the K bike out! But it’s supposed to get cold again for the rest of the week, so it’s probably best I didn’t.

Sick as a dog

Man I’m sick. This is the sickest I can ever remember being. I felt awful on Wednesday but went to work anyway. My throat was really sore and I was hacking and hacking.

Thursday I spent all day in bed. Didn’t eat, didn’t do anything but take ibuprofen and suffer. My throat hurt so much that I couldn’t swallow water, much less anything else.

Friday was not much better than Thursday. My throat still hurt and I spent most of the day in bed again.

Saturday I got up and ate a little. But not much. Man does this suck. I thought I was getter better though.

Woke up this morning (Sunday) at 7:15, hacking my lungs out. So I got up, had some hot lemon water with honey and then some tea and honey and then went back to bed.

I woke up at one point, probably about 9:00, feeling great, but I was stupid and went back to sleep. So when I got up again at 11:30, my throat hurt again. 🙁

It still hurts to swallow, but I think the fevers are gone. I’ll probably go to work tomorrow unless I wake up and feel dead.

Gah, I hate being sick.

Liz has been a real angel though. Steph is sick too and Liz has been waiting on us.

Jonesin’ for a turbo

This is the text of an email I sent to a couple of motorcycle lists I’m on:

While all you old ladies are selling your ‘fast’ bikes and buying trikes (okay, sidecars), I’m wishing I’d never sold my Kawa 750 Turbo.

Sure, it was pretty clapped out, but it still went like stink.

So I have a dilemma… There is a guy selling a 750 turbo, with a parts bike and two other motors for $3k….

If I had a spare $3k that the wife would let go I’d snap this up. But SWMBO says I have enough bikes (is that possible?) so I’d have to sell one to buy another.

I’d love to pick this up. But don’t want to sell anything… And if I was to sell, would it be the R bike or the K bike?

While I did ride my turbo to MT and part way back (crashing it in Bear Tooth Pass due to a oil line coming apart) it’s not a touring bike.

So what to do? Winning the lottery doesn’t seem to be happening (never mind that I’m not even buying tickets right now.) I don’t want to sell the K bike because it’s a great touring bike (it’s foibles not withstanding.) I don’t want to sell the R bike because every time I get on it I remember how much fun it is to ride (and it’s a beautiful classic.)

Damn, damn, damn.

I think if I were to sell a bike, it would be the K bike. I like this bike, but I don’t love it as much as the R bike and it has some definite issues.

But the issues may make it hard to get much money for it. I’m sure I could get $4k for it. I’d like to get $6k. Don’t know if that would happen.

What to do?

Sleep Talking

This morning Rosalyn was talking in her sleep. She was obviously dreaming about playing Hide and Seek. It was really funny.

Clear as a bell she said “Ready or not, here I come.” Followed by “I found you!”

Then she said “I’ve got a great idea! I’ll hide in here.” Then “Awww, you found me.”

“Let’s go find Kia. I wonder where Kia is.”

It was really funny to listen to her.

Web Log Parsing for Fun and Profit

I just sent this to a web site that is direct linking to an image on my
server at home:

——
I was parsing though my usage stats for my website and found this link as
an entry point with 559 hits:

http://www.coloradobeemers.com/nuke/index.php

So I go visit the link and at the bottom of the page you have a direct
link to an image on my server! That’s a no-no.

This is the image that you are linking to:
http://timf.anansi-web.com/old_site/cycles/images/misc/moahead1.gif

Please do not do this. This uses my bandwidth to host images for your site.

I have changed the image to one that uses less bandwidth.

If you want to use the image, ask me and I’ll tell you where I moved it and
you can copy it to your server.

If I don’t hear from them soon I’ll start changing the image to less and
less polite versions…

inconsiderate bastards

So I live in the big city (Minneapolis.) And I live an a pretty dense area. Which means it’s noisy sometimes.

But this Sunday morning at 6:30, some inconsiderate bastard drives down the block, honking his horn.

And not just once, but ‘beep beep beep beep’ five or six times down the block.

Then he parks in front of someones house and honks some more!

Damn it, get your lazy ass out of the car and go ring the doorbell!

Why the hell do you need to wake up every one in the neighborhood because you are too lazy to go ring the doorbell?

I really need to get a wrist rocket and some ball bearings. I’d have busted his car windows for sure.

time for a misc update

Well, all the family is sick. Roz has been the sickest and is finally starting to get better – just in time for Liz and I to both get sick.

The other night Liz slipped and fell down the stairs. No major damage, but you should see the bruises…

Found something funny on the web today – A midi synth powered by hampsters. Funny stuff.

What else is going on? I got the first Lord of the Rings DVD in the mail yesterday, so I finally have all three now.

The damned van had the ABS light come on the other day, but not again since.

I’m playing with RedHat Fedora Core 3 and the QEMU emulator (lets you host other OSes under Linux (like VMWare, but free) – so far so good, but the laptop I’m doing it on is not the fastest. (PIII 1GHz)

More later as I think of it.
