Tucson Photo Album Updated

I found a skin that I like much better than the BananAlbum skin I was using. Although the BananAlbum skin was kind of cool, I don’t think it was as intuitive as the new one.

The new skin is called BluNDL and I like it much better. I am generating the albums using JAlbum, a Java based application that will run on almost any OS. It’s pretty slick, but I think I have found a bug in it. Not a major bug, but a bug none the less.

Any way, the photo album is still here: http://timf.anansi-web.com/images/tucson_2005/index.html

I kept the BananAlbum version around if you want to see it. It’s here: http://timf.anansi-web.com/images/tucson_2005_old/index.html

Tucson Vacation Photos Up

We went to visit Liz’s Dad in Tucson over spring break a couple of weeks ago. We had a lovely visit.

I took some digital photos while we were there. I also tried something new: I have another older, not very high-quality digital camera so I told the kids they could share it. It worked out much better than I expected and they took a bunch of very interesting photos.

So here is the photo album: http://timf.anansi-web.com/images/tucson_2005/

I tried out some new software to make the album, so here are some notes about it.

  • You have to have Flash installed to view the album.
  • The navagation is not as intuitive as I’d like. When you load the page it will be blank after the logo goes away with some text on the left. That text is the navagation menu.
  • Clicking on the picture will advance to the next image.
  • To see a larger version, click on the little squares on the lower right side of the image.
  • The images in the ‘grups’ areas are 98% taken by me. Liz took a few.

Hmmm.. This album format seems to take a lot of explaination. I think I’ll keep looking and maybe redo it again later.

Funniest 911 call evar!

This woman calls 911 because she can’t get the burger she wants at BK.

Hilarious.

Here is the transcript:

Here is the audio:

Oh my gawd!

“Dispatcher: Ma’am, we’re not gonna go down there and enforce your
Western Bacon Cheeseburger.”

“Woman: Well . . . that is . . . that . . . you’re supposed to be
here to protect me.”

“Dispatcher: Well, what are we protecting you from, a wrong cheeseburger?”

Too damned funny.

The Mighty GPz305!

I ‘unstored’ the 305 last night and cleaned the carbs out. There was a nice ring of varnish on the needles right where they sit in the jets at idle.

Maybe that’s why it wasn’t idling so good?

Anyway, I put it back together and turned on the petcock. Then I went into the basement to look for my motorcycle jumper cables. I bet you can guess what I found when I got back to the garage…

Yup, a nice spreading pool of gas on the floor.

Shit!

It would appear that there was some grit in one of the gas inlet seats that was holding the needle open. Cleaned that up and all was good.

The battery (which I removed two years ago – I didn’t ride it at all last year) was really low on water, so I had to walk up to the store and buy some distilled water.

Took care of that, made an extension for the positive battery post out of some 12ga wire (as I couldn’t find my motorcycle jumper cables and the car ones wouldn’t fit down onto the post) hooked it up to the car battery and it fired right up!

F’n Jap bike!

It’s still not running so good. Needs the choke on most of the time, but I think that may be because the stock airbox is gone and the K&N filters flow better. So I’ll probably have to lean it out a bit.

I’m sure it’s going to need a new battery and I don’t think I’ve ever changed the oil since I bought it (5 years ago? My my.) So I probably better take care of that.

Anyway, it’s running well enough to help me cheat my ass off in Gus’ rally!

Misc Fun Links

Just a few fun links:

When you are desiging a web site (or other page layout) but don’t have the text to fill it in, quite often you use fake latin (known as Lorem Ipsum or Greeking.) Well now instead of fake latin, you can use Hillbilly Greeking!

I have been looking for instructions on how to make the knot known as the Monkey’s Fist and finally Googled it. Found a couple of good pages on it. Here is one and here is the other.

It this the worlds ugliest car?

That’s enough for now…

Quick Update

We went to Tucson AZ to visit with Liz’s Dad last week. We had a great time and went lots of places.

I also have a whole bunch of digital photos that I’m going to add comments to and make a slide show out of. Hopefully that will happen soon.

The kids also got to use a digital camera and took bunches of photos. I’ll try and get those up too. Some of them turned out really nice.

Anyway, that’s why there have been no recent updates. 🙂
