Here are the photos I took during the assembly of my ShapeOko CNC mill.

This is what comes in the box when you order the basic kit.

These are the extra parts I ordered – four motors, two 1000mm pieces of Maker Slide rail and some belting. Also shown is the power supply from DigiKey.

The first step is to press the bearings in to the v-groove wheels and idler pulleys. I decided it would be simplest to find a socket that was close to the outside diameter of the bearings and use my drill press to press in the bearings. It worked great. Unfortunately when I was done I had two of the precision washers left over. They were supposed to go into the assembly between the bearings. I had to locate the wheels that were missing the washers and pry out the bearings. Oops.

Next was assembling the plates with the v-groove wheels and the motors.

Here are the two plates for the Y axis drive. I decided to upgrade to the dual drive Y axis from the git-go.

The Maker Slide rails don’t come tapped in the basic kit. So here I am tapping them. (What a messy workbench.)

I didn’t take photos of the Z axis assembly, but here is the Z and Y axis gantry assembly.

Final (mostly) assembly. I still need to hook up the belts and do all the wiring.

When I got home today my GRBL Shield and Seeeduino board were in the mailbox, so I should be able to make it run tomorrow!
I also swung into Home Depot and picked up a few parts that I needed, so I should be all ready to rock!
