Adventures in Wiki land

I have a wiki running on my server (among other things.) I mainly use this wiki to keep a collection of links that I like – so I don’t have to try and sync my favorites and such.

Well, since it’s a wiki, and since I didn’t bother to turn on any authentication, it got whacked the other day.

What happened is that someone ran a search to find wiki pages. This is the search that they used: http://www.yisou.com/search?p=FrontPage+RecentChanges+\
FindPage+HelpContents+&lang=all&f=&d=&u=&source=&b=840

My wiki turned up fourth in the list and since I didn’t have any ACL on it, they replaced the page with 65K of Korean spam. (All links to some site that looked like downloads for cell phones.)

Luckily the wiki keeps a backup, so I could recover it.

Then, just because I can’t leave well enough alone, I upgraded my wiki to the latest version. I was at 1.2.3, and the latest is 1.3.2.

That went mostly okay, but it’s a major upgrade, and of course I didn’t do a normal install the first time, so it was messy. And I had to run 9 different scripts to massage the data to the latest version.

Now there are other problems. I can’t edit the front page – it throws an error, and I also get some other errors… Maybe I’ll tear it down tomorrow and start over.

We’ll see…
